5. Michigan vs. Michigan State (Paul Bunyan Trophy)
There's plenty of hate here, as you'd expect from two public schools that share a state and battle each other on and off the field. However, while I appreciate that anger and the trophy is rock solid, the rivalry has been too one-sided to rank any higher than this. Plus, you know, Michigan State isn't Michigan's primary rival. Still, whenever the words "little brother" are thrown around as often as they are here, you can count on fireworks. Michigan leads 73-38-5.This post was edited by ScottieHazelton 5 days ago

Who the
is Tom Fornelli, and why is he qualified to rank the rivalries? NO MENTION AT ALL that the record since MSU joined the conference is radically closer than the "overall" numbers.

Ah, he went with the scum dominance from the early 1900s as his rational.
Maybe someone should tell him that for around 30 years, scum refused to play MSU at MSU.
Maybe someone should also give him the stat line from the 2000s.

IMO, I’d put USC - UCLA at #2.

It absolutely deserves to be that low, or even lower, after we refused to take a stand last year regarding the cheating and we got beat 49-0. That's what people remember. 49-0. Not even competitive. Embarrassing. I'm still sickened that msu rolled over for them, and now we have to see/hear about it everyday. The rivalry would have been #1, if we had any stones. If no one can tell, I'm still very angry about this.

I would say bowing down to them with tunnelgate was way worse than deciding to play them last year.

Maaaannnn....don't even get me started on that. The way we took it in the tail pipe with that entire tunnelgate situation, is exactly why we are little brother. Zero guts. They own us.

You can thank the HC who used to drive around campus on his tricycle.

Iowa-Minnesota is not even close to a top 5 rivalry. The author liked the trophy. Lame.

That’s *********. As fabricated as UM/OSU is, I can respect the rivalry. MSU/UM is 2nd best. It’s by far the most bitter in this conference and there have been high stakes quite a bit and so many classic finishes. What other rivalry in this conference has had as many classic finishes? Not USC/UCLA or Wisconsin/Minnesota. Plus this ours is intense in every sport. Football, basketball, hockey. Not a one trick pony like IU/Purdue or OSU/UM.
Can anyone name an iconic ending to Wisconsin/Minnesota or Iowa/Minnesota?

Like anyone gives a ***** about games prior to 2000, much less 1950. All time records against each other? Absolutely pointless.

Whatever you say. OSU/UM ranks higher than Israel vs Gaza or God vs Satan as far as the media is concerned.

It's not even a rivalry because they actually secretly love each other. They need each other to be good, to make themselves more money. There's no hate. They don't care about each other in any other college sport besides football. It's all pretend. The level of hate between um and MSU can't be quantified. We want them to lose at every single thing that they ever participate in. That's a rivalry!

If you want to put usc-ucla as #2 just to appease the new b10 fan bases, I guess I can accept them being higher than MSU-UM, but that’s it. MSU-UM should be no lower than 3, and that’s a stretch to put it there. If this guy did any research at all, he could have had a hot-take/click bait/blow up the internet type of article and put it at number 1 and had tons I’ve evidence/reasoning to back it up. As is, it seems he looked at trophies and records and that was it. Lazy.
