Angela Mechele Brooks, of Palestine, Texas, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 17, 2023, at the age of 58. Born on August 7, 1964, in Palestine, Texas, to parents Glenn Arthur Vaughan and Elinor June Middleton. Angela was known for her thoughtful, selfless, graceful, strong, happy, and faith-filled spirit that touched the lives of everyone around her.
Angela was a devoted wife to her loving husband of 41 years, Mike Brooks. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew them. Angela's love for her family was evident in everything she did, from spending time at the lake to taking last-minute road trips and planning family vacations.
Angela joins her parents, Glenn and Elinor Vaughan, in Heaven.
Left to cherish all the memories that were made are her husband, Mike Brooks; daughter, Brittany Brooks; son, Dustin Brooks and wife April; sisters, Phyllis Moody, and Nancy Danner and husband Lee; brother, Gary Glenn Vaughan and wife Lizzie; grandchildren, Brianna, Brayden, Nataleigh, Cameron, and Adilynn; and one great-grandchild on-the-way. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.
Angela had a passion for helping others and spent many years working at various businesses around town including Christian Heritage Academy and Lipsey Ranch. Her dedication to her work and involvement in various associations were a testament to her strong work ethic and commitment to her community. She was a true example of what it means to be a servant leader, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Family was at the heart of Angela's life, and she cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Angela's love for her family was unwavering. She took great pride in supporting her children in their various activities, attending countless sports games and dance recitals with a beaming smile and endless encouragement. Her love for children extended beyond her own family, as she spent countless hours teaching kids sign language and signing with her signing choir. She had a special way of connecting with children, making each one feel loved and valued.
In her free time, Angela enjoyed baking, especially pies, and making peanut brittle for her loved ones. Her sweet tooth was legendary, as evidenced by her love for the way she made sweet tea that would "rot your teeth," as she would say with a laugh. Her laughter was contagious, and her presence brought joy to those around her.
Angela's faith was the cornerstone of her life and was evident in her actions and interactions with others. She was a faithful woman who never wavered in her beliefs, even in the face of adversity. Those who knew Angela were inspired by her unwavering commitment to her faith and her ability to find strength and comfort in her relationship with God. She was a long-time member of Palestine Church and Southside Baptist Church signing choir.
Angela had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and never met a stranger. Her genuine warmth and kindness were felt by all who crossed her path. Angela's love for life was obvious in her radiant smile and the way she always had her lipstick perfectly applied.
One of Angela's most enduring qualities was her ability to give the most heartfelt hugs. If you ever had a hug from Angela, you knew it was a genuine expression of her love and care for you. This simple act of affection was a testament to her nurturing spirit and her desire to make everyone feel loved and supported. Her legacy lives on in the hearts and memories of those she touched during her time on earth. We celebrate her life and the countless ways she made the world a better place for all who knew her.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Rhone Funeral Home.
Funeral services to celebrate Angela’s life are to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Southside Baptist Church, in Palestine, Texas with Eric Musil officiating. Interment will follow in Land of Memory Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Nick Curry, Brady Vaughan, Taylor Burris, Tex Wilbourn, Travis LeBleu, and Casey McKinney. Honorary pallbearers include Lee Danner, Ken West, Landon Thomas, Payton Thomas, and Lilburn Goodson.
